Tropical fruit, medicinal smoke, funk and sea spray – this is what 1960s Bowmore is all about. A relatively rare vintage from these halcyon days of Islay whisky, this 1963 single malt was bottled to mark 30 years of Morrison Bowmore Distillers. By the time Stanley P Morrison took the distillery on it was already centuries old, having entered the whisky business (officially) in 1816. There is no shortage of excellent Bowmore single malts hitting our shelves today, but older bottlings like this offer a fascinating glimpse of whisky in the heady days of the mid-20th century. A genuine classic.
