Description
Glück by Ewald Tscheppe of Werlitsch is a very special skin-contact wine made with Sauvignon Blanc, from Opok soils, which are fine-grained, calcareous marl and silt typically found in the steep Styrian vineyards. It´s sold in a clay bottle that helps it breathe (and look special!)
There are two skin-contact wines from Werlitsch in clay bottles: Glück & Freude.
The main difference between the two are that Freude is macerated as whole bunches, whilst Glück is destemmed.
This is the 2022 vintage, and we have not yet tried it, but we hear it has a beautiful complexity marked by a tannic structure, saltiness and minerality. You might find notes of quince, ripe pear, mango, and more herbal ones like thyme.
Brigitte and Ewald Tscheppe from Werlitsch, together with Styrian wine producers Taus, Tscheppe, Muster and Strohmeier, belong to the ‘Schmecke das Leben’ (‘Taste life’) group.
Their philosophy is about protecting the land, and making authentic and expressive natural wines that stay honest to their roots. It’s an invitation to slow down, share a glass, and truly enjoy the moment!
